Welcome to the
The Worcester Democratic Party is the county-level branch of the Democratic Party in the United States. Like its state and national counterparts, the Worcester Democratic Party is overseen by a Central Committee. The aim of the Worcester County Democratic Central Committee is to govern the Democratic Party in our county and represent Worcester County as its delegation to the Maryland State Democratic Central Committee. The Central Committee members are chosen through the Maryland Democratic Primary during gubernatorial election cycles and serve for four years. Our main focus is discovering, training, backing, and electing Democratic candidates. Above all, we strive to create a strong and connected Democratic community.
Who we are
- Central Committee members are the people elected to work directly in the trenches on behalf of the Democratic Party and to organize an ongoing presence at the local level. They work to organize and perform the many tasks required to get Democrats elected. Your Central Committee members are the grass roots local-level elected volunteers of the Maryland Democratic Party.
- The DCCWC members are dedicated to their work to ensure the election of Democrats to public office, while encouraging the participation of activists, volunteers and financial contributors.
- Central Committee members are the grassroots local-level elected volunteers of the Maryland Democratic Party. In short, your Worcester County Central Committee members are the backbone of the Maryland State Democratic Party.
- They are not managers or members of a board of directors, but the frontline workers themselves. They help organize and fulfill tasks that may include, but not limited to: Fundraising, party visibility at public fairs/festivals, etc., precinct organization, participate in canvassing operations, distribute political literature, voter registration, phone banks, and candidate recruitment. Organizing the tasks necessary for Democrats to be successful in elections.
- As a member of the local Central Committee individuals are automatic members of the State Central Committee and attend semi-annual meetings, vote on State Party issues and participate in State Party projects.
- Central Committee members have the official responsibility to fill vacancies of certain offices due to death or resignation of elected officials and fill any vacancy when there is a failure to have a Democratic Candidate file for nomination.
- The Central Committee also recommends to the Governor appointment of the members and substitute members for the local County Board of Elections and at times makes recommendations to other state and county boards.
Who we are not
- Central Committee members are not legislators.
